The Bedfordshire Regiment in the Great War
Thiepval Memorial to the Missing on the Somme
The impressive Canadian Memorial at Vimy
Having researched several of my local War Memorials in my "spare time", I felt it would be useful to include the information on this site, despite the fact that many of them are in Northamptonshire (where I used to live) and, as such, have few Bedfords remembered on them. However, remembering the brave men and women who served and fell for our benefit is really what this site is all about, hence this page seems appropriate. A menu of those on this site can be seen at the bottom of the page.
I would however point you in the direction of Martin Edwards' Roll of Honour site, which is far more comprehensive than I would ever begin to achieve. His intention is to include the memorials from every village, town and city in the country, which he has been working towards for many years. His site also includes many, many additional areas of information including Boer War, Medal Winners and many on-line databases. Well worth the visit.
There is also the UK National Inventory of War Memorials site, which is supported by the Imperial War Museum. Search this too, on the off chance that they contain additional information over and above that included on the Roll of Honour site.

External War Memorial sites
If you look around, there has been some very useful and interesting research conducted into numerous other War Memorials around the UK and elsewhere. This list represents only the tiniest section of what is available from the internet and local libraries, so it is well worth looking around if you need something specific that is not covered here.
Some of these sites do not remain in place for too long, so if any of the links you follow are broken, let me know and I will amend them.
Buckinghamshire Remembers is a site recording county memorials, including many men from the Bedfordshire Regiment, so is worth a visit.
There is also a section on war graves, including an index listing those graves I have either photographed myself or someone has been kind enough to pass a copy of a grave photograph onto me, in case it should prove useful to others.
