Graves and War Memorials
Wargraves photographs
Having visited many cemeteries, memorials and churchyards in the time I have been researching the Regiment, I have many hundreds of photographs of gravestones and memorials. Below are links to a few, although I will be adding an index covering the individual graves I have in the future (as time permits). I would like to acknowledge Chris Collier, who has provided me with close to 100 of the graves (with more to follow I am told!), mainly from the Bedfordshire area. Also, Michael Robson and Ralph McLean (of the South African War Graves project) have taken and forwarded many of the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire men's graves from the Middle East and North Africa, which are naturally harder to get hold of, so may be of use to someone. If you would like a copy of one of them, please get in touch with me and I will forward the photo. They are all in jpeg format and vary in size, depending on what equipment I used at the time! If you have additional photographs that you would like to make available to others from this site, please contact me and I will build them into the database with pleasure. As well as the photographs, if you have catalogued them already, I would greatly appreciate the index as well of course, preferably in an Excel spreadsheet format if available. If they are not catalogued, not to worry as just having them available would be great! As with all the info on this site, there is no charge for it as my wish is to make the information available to those who need it but cannot get to it. If however you feel you have benefitted from it being here (and can afford to of course), all small donations are gratefully recieved and help towards the expansion and continuing development of the site.
War Memorials across the United Kingdom
Having researched several of the local War Memorials in my "spare time", I felt it would be useful to include the information on this site, despite the fact that many of them are in Northamptonshire and, as such, have few Bedfords remembered on them. However, remembering the brave men and women who served and fell for our benefit is really what this site is all about, hence this page seems appropriate. I would however point you in the direction of Martin Edwards' Roll of Honour site, which is far more comperhensive than I would ever begin to achieve. His intention is to include the Memorials from every village, town and city in the country, which he has been working towards for many years. His site also includes many, many additional areas of information including Boer War, Medal Winners and many on-line databases. Well worth the visit! In addition, there are several War Memorial sites researched by others who I have linked to here, as this site is essentially about letting people know where to look for information! Many of the external sites are true labours of love, having had many, many hours spent on them. External War Memorial sites Some useful and interesting research conducted into various other War Memorials around the UK. This list represents only the tiniest section of what is available from the internet and local libraries, so it is well worth looking around f you are looking for something specific.
